Whare across the motu have been tuning into the Rugby World Cup to support the Black Ferns as they cut a track to the finals. The superb athleticism and skill on display has been a huge drawcard, generating enthusiastic support for the players and their teams. The Ferns, which has a large contingent of Māori and Pasifika players, have had to overcome a number of challenges in the lead up to the Cup, including the fallout from their troubled 2021 European tour, which led to the appointment of new coaches.

On August 18th, Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (Ngā Pae) was thrilled to host the Hon. Ayesha Verrall, Minister for Research, Science and Innovation at Rehutai, Waipapa Taumata Rau.

Celebrating 20 years of being Aotearoa New Zealand’s only Indigenous Centre of Research Excellence, Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga (NPM) are excited to invite you to join us online from 15 – 18 November 2022 for our 2nd virtual and 10th International Indigenous Research Conference (IIRC).

Congratulations to the recipients announced in today's Royal Society Te Apārangi awards list with a special mention to our preeminent Māori scholars (see list below) who've been recognised for their outstanding research achievements.

This year's 2021-2022 New Horizons Raumati (Summer) Internship Programme is about to start with another outstanding group of aspiring emerging Māori researchers.

This summer they will be working with NPM Researchers from around the country engaged in an exciting range of projects that align to the NPM Matakitenga research programme and contribute to the mission of NPM which is to create the foundations for flourishing Māori futures.

Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga has partnered with the team at The Spinoff to bring an exciting new series that shares our research and shows how Mātauranga Māori is shaping the future of Aotearoa.

We begin by returning to our roots. 'Ko Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga tēnei: The beating heart of mātauranga Māori' that chronicles our incredible journey to date.

Fulbright New Zealand and Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga New Zealand’s Māori Centre of Research Excellence are delighted to announce that Dr Will Flavell (Ngā Puhi, Ngāti Whatua, Tainui, Ngāti Maniapoto) is the 2022 recipient of the Fulbright-Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga Scholar Award to undertake research in the US.

To contribute to increasing Māori postgraduate scholarship in law, the Borrin Foundation has partnered with Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga. A pool of $80,000 is available annually to support a Māori scholar to pursue a post-graduate degree in law at a New Zealand university or at an overseas institution.
