The Conference Attendance Grant is intended to support researchers and developing researchers wishing to disseminate their research work at national and international conferences leading to the potential publication of their research findings.

The grant should be regarded as partial support only, for attendance at conferences. Applicants are encouraged to seek alternative sources of funding as well. No more than $3,500 will be available per person. The total fund available each round is limited.

Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga joined in partnership with the New Zealand Social Statistics Network (NZSSN) to sponsor and support Māori students and researchers to attend research methods and skills short courses in NZSSN’s Summer Programme 2010. These were very well received and provided a great opportunity to our students and researchers.

Te Ahukaramū Charles Royal has recently been appointed Director of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga, one of New Zealand’s eight centres of research excellence. He has also been appointed Professor of Indigenous Development in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Auckland. Charles’s appointment commenced the 1st of December 2009.

The Seventh International Indigenous Research Wānanga for mid-career and senior Māori and Indigenous researchers was held in Rotorua in November.

The Board and Joint Directors of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Charles Te Ahukaramū Royal to the position of Director of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga.

We wish to recruit two students to complete a 10 – 12 week internship programme. Crown Research Institute Scion together with Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga have recently formed a partnership and we are pleased to announce this first joint initiative. The aim of the internship is to work with an active researcher and to develop research skills in the context of clearly-defined parts of a research project.

While Scion has a broad range of research programmes, there are currently five projects that we seek skilled and enthusiastic students to fill. These are:
