NPM is seeking to appoint a new Co-Director, one with a strong record of research, teaching, graduate supervision and demonstrated research leadership. The position will work alongside Professor Jacinta Ruru (University of Otago) as Co-Director, succeeding Professor Tracey McIntosh who has recently been appointed Professor of Indigenous Studies and co-Head, Te Wānanga o Waipapa at the University of Auckland. NPM is hosted by and has its main offices based at the University of Auckland, on behalf of the 21 collaborative partners.
Senior researchers with expertise in research contributing to Māori aspirations and development and positive change for Māori, as well as the nation, are invited to apply.
NPM’s vision is bold, its research programme broad, and the collective large, therefore it is essential that applicants can work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and communities, Māori communities in particular. The successful applicant will demonstrate expertise and experience in the following areas:
- development, delivery, and leadership of Māori research, including research outputs and outcomes contributing Māori advancement;
- teaching, education, and leadership in tertiary education;
- expanding and strengthening both Māori and national capability for transformational change through Māori and Indigenous research and its applications;
- development of research and activities or programmes to sustain research and outputs; and
- knowledge and appreciation of Te Ao Māori is essential and competence in te reo Māori would be highly regarded.
The Co-Director will be employed to a permanent academic position in the appropriate Faculty (commensurate with their academic track record) within the University of Auckland, with an immediate 0.5 FTE secondment to the position of Co-Director, Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga, until December 2020.
NPM commenced its new CoRE contract in January 2016, which extends through to 2020 and will continue the legacy NPM has built over the 15 previous years.
In 2016, the centre implemented a new research strategy and new organisational structure and model. This new research focus comprises three key research themes woven together with a vigorous programme of Te Reo me Ngā Tikanga Māori which invests NPM’s Indigeneity strongly into the research space and activities. A suite of research projects is underway within the following research themes:
Whai Rawa (Māori Economies),
Te Tai Ao (The Natural Environment),
Mauri Ora (Human Flourishing), along with our programme of Te Reo me Ngā Tikanga Māori.
