Hui Poutama, is a biennial symposium held at the University of Otago, which showcases the depth and reach of Māori academic research at the university.

Under the theme of “Titiro whakamuri kia anga whakamua”, 12 of the universities Māori academics are presenting their work, together with keynote speakers which include new NPM Co-Director Professor Linda Nikora and also NPM Postdotoral Fellow Dr Gianna Leoni.

After last weeks welcome news from the Marsden Fund regarding the dramatic increase in Māori led and inspired research across our sector, this Hui Poutama provides a fantastic opportunity to celebrate the excellence of our work and the future potential it holds for our communities and the country as a whole.

Māori researchers are increasingly involved in National Science Challenges, Centres of Research Excellence, and large scale local, national and international research projects and programmes.
