Project commenced:

Awardee: Dr Reuben Collier, Te Whare Wānanga o Awanuiārangi

The Awardee will undertake the Whakaaweawe Impact and Transformation Grant titled Nga Taonga Tuku Iho.

He Rau Aroha: This book pays tribute to specific soldiers of the 28th Maori Battalion who gave their lives during the Battle of Cassino where they were killed in action. Each contributor began with a soldier's regimental number and carefully researched their story. Families of the soldiers were interviewed so their voices and memories could be told in the research.

The finished publication is intended as a taonga, a koha to the descendants and families of those soldiers. It ensures that the bravery, sacrifice, and humanity of these men will never be forgotten.

Supporting PhD Students Through a Maori Lens: The second project is a trilogy of three books designed as a resource for PhD students, guiding them step by step through the doctoral journey from an Indigenous and Maori perspective.

Together, the trilogy acts like a companion, walking alongside students, offering both practical tips and cultural teachings. The books highlight the importance of Indigenous ways of knowing and being, ensuring that students are not only successful in completing their thesis but also remain connected to their cultural identity and values throughout the journey.
