The Research Programme identifies, selects and funds research projects that demonstrate excellence in support of our research themes. We fund these projects through contestable research rounds and the Pae Tawhiti Grants, which are open to researchers from qualifying research organisations anywhere in New Zealand.
All proposals are assessed by the of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga who make recommendations to the Joint Directors for approval of projects for funding.
We are currently funding 30 research projects.
To date, the Centre's research projects have produced:
- Very rapid uptake of recommended interventions by government agencies, health and environmental authorities
- The emergence of novel, multidisciplinary collaborations between researchers numerous publications in leading journals
- Rapidly growing international recognition for Māori research, and
- Increased collaboration with other agencies in jointly leveraging research funding.
