Kaiwhakahaere Matua: Executive Director
Daniel is the Executive Director of Ngā Pae o te Māramatanga, and has been since 2011. He directs and plans the entire Centre’s business activities, including contracting, financial operations, resources planning, risk management, systems and performance measures and manages the Centre's investment portfolios.
Daniel holds two degrees, a Bachelor's degree in Applied Sciences and a Master's degree in Health Sciences with honours, and is a member of the Project Management Institute and PM practitioner. He came to the Centre having been the Research Programme Manager for the Social Statistics Research Group, and co-founded the Centre of Methods and Policy Applications in the Social Sciences (COMPASS) at the University of Auckland, prior to that he had four years' as founder and Manager of the New Zealand Social Statistics Network (NZSSN). In 2007 he secured funding, developed and established the New Zealand Social Science Data Service where he was the founding manager. He has redeveloped and held management positions at the Survey Research Unit and the Centre for Health Services Research and Policy, School of Population Health, The University of Auckland; the Health Services Research Team, National Primary Medical Care Study, Department of Community Health, University of Auckland; and others. He also has extensive experience in the field of research, business development, data analytics and management, programme management and strategic planning.
Daniel serves on the Board's of the COMPASS, NZSSN, and Northcote Birkenhead Rugby and Sports Incorporated and was appointed to the Veterans’ Health Advisory Panel in November 2016.
Daniel recently led a programme of research looking at Iwi household whānau wellbeing using New Zealand Census Data. This programme provided five participating Iwi detailed analysis and trends of their peoples environment/households through census based indicators, predominately economic.
