Ko te hua o te rengarenga: he maumaharatanga - Supporting the archiving and analysis of Māori women’s leadership histories

About this research

Intern: Kaitlyn Mclean, Victoria University of Wellington

Supervisor: Associate Professor Mere Skerrett, Victoria University of Wellington

This internship involved supporting the work of Te Rōpū Wāhine Māori Toko i te Ora - the Māori Women’s Welfare League through research, transcription, and thematic analysis of interviews with wāhine Māori.

The project focused on gathering and preserving the kōrero, experiences, and aspirations shared by 23 League members, contributing to a report that reflects the enduring strength, community leadership, and future visions of wāhine Māori. This work aimed to honour participants’ voices while producing a meaningful resource for the League’s ongoing advocacy and celebration of its 75-year legacy.
